Hare Krishna. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
We may ask why should we be Krishna conscious ?
What is the need ? We have all the opulence, we go shopping, we study in renowned universities, etc so why should we indulge in Krishna consciousness. Let us find out.
Temporary material world
We all must have gone through with many emotions, sometimes we hurt others, and sometimes we get hurt. Sometimes we become happy and sometimes sad. Sometimes we have money and sometimes we don't. Something we win and sometimes we lose. This shows how temporary this material world is. These days depression, headaches are becoming so common, and there are family disputes going on. Somehow we all don't get satisfied, while performing our duties. Then we try to find something, our real identity, our real home, with a hope that after realising which we will become happy forever.
Srimad Bhagavatam, the jewel of Vedic literature, tells in text 4.4.44 that "Bhagavad Gita is the instruction given by Lord Krishna". Lord Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita text 9.17:
"पिताहमस्य जगतो माता धाता पितामह: । वेद्यं पवित्रम् ॐकार ऋक् साम यजुरेव च ॥ १७ ॥"
That is "I am the father of this universe, the mother, the support and the grandsire. I am the object of knowledge, the purifier and the syllable oṁ. I am also the Ṛg, the Sāma and the Yajur Vedas."
Thus, we are the children of Lord Hari and this is our true identity. When we forget this, then we get entangled in several material miseries.
Text 6.34 of Bhagavad Gita tells:
"चञ्चलं हि मन: कृष्ण प्रमाथि बलवद्दृढम् । तस्याहं निग्रहं मन्ये वायोरिव सुदुष्करम् ॥ ३४ ॥"
That is "The mind is restless, turbulent, obstinate and very strong, O Kṛṣṇa, and to subdue it, I think, is more difficult than controlling the wind."
Thus we sometimes do good and sometimes bad. When we don't know our true identity, we get inclined to hollow foreign cultures. When we become Krishna conscious, we become ideal in all aspects, in clothing, in eating, in everything. We maintain our relationships very beautifully because there is no ill intention within us, and we try to serve others. Every inconvenience becomes an opportunity to think about the Lord.
Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita text 18.66 tells:
"सर्वधर्मान्परित्यज्य मामेकं शरणं व्रज । अहं त्वां सर्वपापेभ्यो मोक्षयिष्यामि मा शुच: ॥ ६६ ॥"
That is "Abandon all varieties of religion and just surrender unto Me. I shall deliver you from all sinful reactions. Do not fear."
Thus our only duty is to surrender ourselves unto the Supreme personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna. We try to achieve perfection in everything, and when we realise that it is not possible, then we say that imperfections are beautiful. These are all material thoughts which we easily make to satisfy ourselves. But we must understand that without knowing the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna, from whom everything emanates, it is very difficult to achieve perfection in this material world. Anything which is based on such a shallow root, vanishes very quickly. We listen to poetries which calm our material desires, but we should understand that Bhagavad Gita is the greatest among the poetries, which is the direct message from Lord Krishna, which makes us realise our true identity.
Text 12.13.16 of Srimad Bhagavatam tells:
"निम्नगानां यथा गङ्गा देवानामच्युतो यथा । वैष्णवानां यथा शम्भु: पुराणानामिदं तथा ॥ १६ ॥"
That is "Just as the Gaṅgā is the greatest of all rivers, Lord Acyuta the supreme among deities and Lord Śambhu [Śiva] the greatest of Vaiṣṇavas, so Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam is the greatest of all Purāṇas." We must also take inspiration from Lord Shiva, who is the greatest devotee of Lord Hari, the greatest vaishnava. Having immense devotion, he drank the halahal poison so easily, saving mankind from its effect. We can take inspiration that how, if a family is a devotee family, there can be no disputes, and there is always oneness among them. Hence if we will become Krishna Conscious, we will help each other to serve Lord Hari and Vaishnavas.
Lord Krishna tells in Bhagvat Gita text 2.47:
"कर्मण्येवाधिकारस्ते मा फलेषु कदाचन । मा कर्मफलहेतुर्भूर्मा ते सङ्गोऽस्त्वकर्मणि ॥ ४७ ॥"
That is "You have a right to perform your prescribed duty, but you are not entitled to the fruits of action. Never consider yourself the cause of the results of your activities, and never be attached to not doing your duty."
Thus we must all surrender ourselves to the supreme personality of godhead and try to become the servants of vaishnavas and perform our material duties. We must read the holy scriptures like Srimad Bhagavad and Bhagavad Gita, under the shelter of Guru, and thus we will all become happy and will return back to our eternal home.
Hare Krishna.
